Saturday 7-24-10 (Day 1)

Eli's first time in Lake Superior.

We were on the road around 2:15am. Jacob said, "Adam, us is going to Copper Harbor!" Adam woke up just before crossing the Mackinaw bridge. As we crossed the bridge he said, "Its all light up... I love this!" Jacob woke up when we stopped for gas just after crossing the bridge. Around 5am Eli started fussing so we pulled over so I could nurse him. Jacob and Adam got out to stretch. They walked with Daddy by Lake Michigan. Jacob did a little "happy dance" and giggled excitedly. I drove for about an hour so Jared could rest. Adam and Eli also slept. Jacob often wanted to know how much longer to go. So we usually told him in number of Toy Story's ("Its like watching Toy Story two times"). He also liked know how many more miles (told on the GPS) to go. We stopped at the Hilltop Restaurant and shared a huge sweat roll. As we drove through "the tunnels" Adam said, "There's alot of hills." Jacob said, "The hills tickle my belly." We arrived in Copper Harbor around 12:30. It took a few hours to set up camp. Jacob and Adam played in the sand in the firepit ring almost the entire time. They did like helping us put in the tent stakes and put together the poles. Eli was content in the stroller or bumbo seat. We ate a late lunch and then walked over to "Pebble beach". Then we headed into town to watch Dennis raku firing. Grandma and Grandpa were there too. This evening we went out for ice cream with Grandma and Grandpa. We were all very tired and in bed around 9:15.
